The Story Behind the Design
A Continuing Series from Pinchbeck
At Pinchbeck, no watch begins with a trend.
Each collection begins with a reference; a place, a tradition, a detail observed and considered. Sometimes architectural. Sometimes cultural. Sometimes sporting. Always intentional.
Over time, we realised that while each watch carries its own narrative, we had never fully shared the thinking behind them.
This series exists to change that.
“The Story Behind the Design” is an ongoing exploration of every watch in our collection. With each edition, we will focus on a single piece examining:
The historical or cultural influence
The design decisions that shaped it
And why the collection remains limited
We are sharing this because watches should not be anonymous objects.
They are assembled components of thought, proportion and craft. They reflect decisions about colour, balance, legibility, material, and restraint.
Each watch is hand assembled in Lincoln, beside Lincoln Cathedral, a city shaped by centuries of continuity. That sense of place informs how we work: steadily, deliberately, and without excess.
By releasing this series over time, we hope to offer more than product descriptions. We want to offer clarity. Context. Understanding.
Not marketing noise but design reasoning.
Some watches draw directly from history. Others explore proportion, colour, or creative experimentation. All are limited in production, not to create urgency, but to preserve intention.
This is not a retrospective.
It is a continuing record of how each watch came to be and why it exists at all.
New editions of this series will appear regularly, each one focusing on a single collection.
History, interpreted.
Time, assembled.
Stories, shared.
