Why We Close the Workshop at Christmas
As the year draws to a close, the Pinchbeck workshop grows quieter.
Tools are put down, benches are tidied, and the rhythm of making, so constant throughout the year, finally slows. For two weeks over the Christmas period, we close our doors. It’s a decision we make deliberately, every year, and one that reflects who we are as much as the watches we build.
Time Is Not Just Something We Measure
At Pinchbeck, we spend our days thinking deeply about time, how it passes, how it’s measured and how it’s experienced. But time is not only something to be tracked on a dial. It is something to be lived.
The watches we make are designed to accompany life’s moments: ordinary days, significant milestones, and everything in between. To do that honestly, we believe it’s important to step away from the bench occasionally and experience those moments ourselves.
Christmas offers us that pause.
Craftsmanship Needs Rest
Watchmaking is a craft that demands patience, focus, and care. Each piece is assembled by hand, adjusted, tested, and finished with attention that can’t be rushed.
Closing the workshop allows our small team time to rest properly, to return in the new year refreshed, focused, and ready to give each watch the care it deserves. Good work depends on clear minds and steady hands, and that requires balance.
Family, Tradition, and Being Present
Pinchbeck is a family-run business with deep roots in British tradition. For us, Christmas is not about productivity or output; it’s about presence.
Time spent with family, shared meals, long walks, quiet conversations, these moments are fleeting, and they matter. In stepping away from our work, we honour the same values that underpin our watches: longevity, meaning, and connection.
Watches Made Slowly, Lives Lived Fully
Our approach has never been about speed. We don’t mass-produce or rush orders. Every watch is made to be worn, enjoyed, and passed down, not to sit in a box or chase trends.
Closing for Christmas is simply an extension of that philosophy. It’s a reminder that time, when treated with care, becomes something richer and more valuable.
We’ll Be Back Soon
Orders can still be placed while we’re closed, and each watch will be crafted in the new year, just as carefully as ever. When we return to the workshop, it will be with renewed energy, ready to begin another year of making watches that respect both time and the people who wear them.
Until then, we wish you a peaceful Christmas and time well spent.
